About Tunarama
Since 1962, the Tunarama Festival has been the heart and soul of summer in Port Lincoln, South Australia. What began with a sail-past and the blessing of the tuna fleet—celebrating the industry that shaped our community—has grown into one of the state’s most iconic events.
Held over three days on the stunning Tasman Terrace Foreshore, Tunarama welcomes around 25,000 visitors to experience a vibrant mix of tradition, entertainment, and family fun. From dazzling fireworks and colourful street parades to live music, food stalls, rides, and sideshows, the festival offers something for everyone.
Of course, no mention of Tunarama is complete without its most famous event—the World Championship Tuna Toss. Born in 1980 from the back-breaking work of unloading tuna by hand, the competition has turned a once-gritty daily task into a world-renowned sporting spectacle. Today, challengers step up to test their strength (and style!) by hurling a 10kg rubber tuna as far as they can, vying for glory and global bragging rights.
While the tuna industry itself has changed, the festival continues to celebrate Port Lincoln’s heritage, pride, and community spirit. More than just an event, Tunarama is a tradition that brings locals and visitors together year after year to share in the joy, history, and unique charm of Australia’s seafood capital.
We hope you will come and share in the fun with us!
